Loom fixer
A loom fixer was the textile mill mechanic who adjusted and repaired the power looms that weavers ran.
Each loom fixer looked after a set of looms in one part of the weave room. When a loom broke down or began weaving faulty cloth, the weaver called the fixer, since a stopped loom earned nothing for the weaver or the mill.
It was skilled mechanical work and usually paid more than weaving. In mill towns a household may show a father as loom fixer and several sons and daughters as weavers or spinners.
