rodzice

Rodzice is Polish for "parents"; rodziców means "of the parents" and introduces the father and mother of a child, bride or groom.

Rodzice is the plural of rodzic, a parent. In records you will often see rodziców, the genitive plural with the ending -ów, meaning of the parents, before or after the names of the father and mother.

Do not confuse it with rodzice chrzestni, literally baptismal parents, which means the godparents. A related word is rodzina, family. In marriage entries, read closely to see whether each parent is described as living or as already dead (zmarły, or niegdyś, the late).
