rolnik
Rolnik is Polish for "farmer," from rola, a field; in old records it is a common occupation for a man who worked the land.
Rolnik means farmer and comes from rola, arable field. Old word lists translate it as farmer, husbandman or tenant farmer, so the word alone does not prove the family owned land.
It is a frequent occupation for fathers and witnesses in the Polish-language registers. The plural genitive rolników appears when several witnesses share the occupation. Compare gospodarz, a farmer running his own holding, and wyrobnik or komornik, laborers with little or no land.
