sierpień
Sierpień is Polish for August; in a written date it appears as sierpnia, "of August," as in dnia piętnastego sierpnia, on August 15.
Sierpień is August, named from sierp, sickle, because it was the month of the harvest. In dates it takes the genitive form sierpnia: dnia piętnastego sierpnia, on the fifteenth of August. The -ie- before the n drops out, so sierpnia is shorter than sierpień.
Do not mix up sierpnia with września, September, the month that follows; the first letters s and w differ clearly. The Roman numeral for August is VIII.
Look it up: old jobs, causes of death, Latin, abbreviations, nicknames and more.
