zam.

Zam. is the Polish abbreviation of zamieszkały (zamieszkała for a woman), meaning "residing" or "living at" the place named.

Zamieszkały means living somewhere permanently, and zam. is its standard abbreviation. In the narrative records it follows a person's name, age and occupation, as w Pomaskach zamieszkały, living in Pomaski. The place name is in the locative case after w, so its ending changes.

The ending of the word follows the person: zamieszkała for a woman and zamieszkałych for several people, such as two witnesses. In the narrative registers of the 1800s the word is usually written out in full, often with a capital Z.
