dräng

A dräng was a farmhand: a man hired for a year at a time to live and work on someone else's farm in rural Sweden.

Drängar, unlike day laborers, were employed for a full year and lived on the farm. From 1833 the service year ran from November 1 to October 24, so farmhands often changed employers around the end of October, which shows up in moving records.

In older Swedish the word meant a young unmarried man, and the FamilySearch list gives bachelor as one sense. In records dr. can stand for dräng or for dotter, and Dr. can also mean doktor, so read the context.
