gård
Gård is Swedish for a farm or farmstead; in household rolls it names the farm a family lived on, under the village it belonged to.
A gård is the group of buildings at the center of a farm, and by extension the whole farm and its household. Household rolls list people farm by farm, with the gård's name heading each section.
It also means a yard or a property in a town. In names, gård usually means a farm, as in Storgården, the big farm. A family's farm name is a strong clue when the patronymic surnames repeat.
