Hustru is Swedish for "wife"; in household rolls the wife is listed right after her husband, often shortened to h. or Hu.
In a household examination roll the husband comes first and the line below usually begins with hustru or its abbreviation, followed by her own name. Swedish wives kept their patronymic, so a farmer Anders Persson's wife may be Maria Jonsdotter.
Phrases include hans hustru (his wife), abbreviated h.h., and dess hustru (his wife), abbreviated d.h. Soldiers' wives were sometimes written s:hu, soldat hustru.
