ogift
Ogift is Swedish for "unmarried"; it marks a person who had never married, such as an adult son or daughter still living at home.
Ogift, abbreviated og., is the opposite of gift. In a household roll it often appears with grown children who stayed on the farm or with servants. Servant titles like piga and dräng usually imply unmarried people too.
Watch for the difference between ogift and änka or änkling: a woman marked ogift had never married, so any children listed with her were born outside marriage.
