Daily AncestorSwedish month names
Swedish month names are close to English: januari, februari, mars, april, maj, juni, juli, augusti, september, oktober, november, december.
Most Swedish month names are easy to recognize, but a few trip readers up: mars is March, maj is May, juli is July and augusti is August. Modern Swedish writes them with a small letter, but older records often capitalize them, as in the example, and abbreviate them, as in jan. or febr.
Repeated months are often written d:o, ditto, so a date such as d. 16 d:o means the 16th of the same month as the line above.
