Military abbreviation lists give Art. for artillery, the branch that served the cannon. So 2d Art. or Lt. Art. names an artillery unit, where Lt. means light.
Name lists give the same Art. for Arthur. In a roster, look at whether Art. follows a unit number or stands before a surname; in a census name column it means Arthur.
