bapt.

Bapt. (also bp.) means "baptized": the date given is the christening, which may be days, weeks or years after birth.

Bapt. and bp. are the usual short forms of baptized (often spelled baptised in older English records). In a church register the date after it is the day of the ceremony, not the birth.

Infants were often baptized within days or weeks of birth, but older children and adults could be baptized at the same time, especially in frontier areas or when a minister visited only now and then. Do not copy a baptism date into a tree as a birth date without saying so.
