Bug.
Bug. in a military roster means bugler, the soldier who sounded calls on the bugle.
The Nebraska Civil War roster key gives Bug. for bugler, while it writes Musician in full. The bugle is a simple brass signaling horn without valves, used to sound calls.
A bugler was an enlisted man, so Bug. after a name is his post in the company, not an injury or a nickname. Look for him in the same service and pension records as other soldiers.
As seen in a recordCompany roster in a state adjutant general's report
Bug. Asa Whitlow, e. Sept. 3, '61
