Civ
Civ in the 1930 census veterans column means the man was a veteran of the Civil War.
The 1930 census asked men 21 and older whether they had served in a war or expedition, and Civ was the short form for the Civil War. The war had ended 65 years earlier, so these men were old by 1930 and a Civ entry is rare and worth noticing.
Unlike 1910, which wrote UA, UN, CA or CN, the 1930 code does not say which side the man served on. Check his birthplace and where he lived in 1910, then search both Union and Confederate service records.
