Agricultural schedule
The agricultural schedule was a separate 1850 to 1880 census form listing each farm operator with acres, farm value, livestock and crops raised.
Each farm got a line under the name of the owner or manager: improved and unimproved acres, cash value of the farm and machinery, livestock, and the amounts of each crop for the past year. The 1880 form added acreage by crop, poultry, eggs and farm tenure.
Small farms were left out: in 1850 those producing under $100 a year, and by 1870 farms under three acres or producing under $500, according to NARA. The 1880 questions on farm tenure help tell owners from renters.
