Reinstated

Reinstated, rst in abstracts, means a disowned Quaker was taken back into membership after condemning the misconduct that led to disownment.

Disownment was not always final. A former member could send the meeting a paper condemning the old offense and ask to be restored, sometimes many years later.

A reinstatement can explain why a person disowned for marrying out later shows up with their children on a certificate of removal.

As seen in a recordQuaker monthly meeting minutes or a published abstract, 1700s to 1800s
