sépulture

Sépulture is French for "burial"; it is the burial itself and the name of the burial entry in a parish register.

Sépulture means the act of burying a body. In a parish register the acte de sépulture is the third kind of entry, after baptism and marriage, and Quebec indexes may mark burials with the letter s.

A burial entry usually gives the date of the entry, the names, an approximate age and the witnesses, and often not the parents. That can make it hard to tell when and where the person was born, so you may need other records to identify the person.
