gestorben
Gestorben is German for "died"; gest. followed by a date in a church book, civil register or on a gravestone gives the day of death.
Gestorben is the past participle of sterben, to die. The usual short form is gest. Other words you will see for the same event are verstorben (deceased), starb (died) and Sterbefall (a death).
Death registers usually give the date of death and then the burial date under begraben, often with the age and cause. Read the abbreviation closely: gest. is died, but get. is baptized.
