German words in old records · card M

Montag

Montag is German for Monday; it appears in German records when the weekday of a birth, death or wedding is written out.

German records list the days as Sonntag, Montag, Dienstag, Mittwoch, Donnerstag, Freitag and Sonnabend or Samstag. Civil records often spell out both the weekday and the date, which lets you check a hard-to-read date against a calendar for that year.

If the weekday and the date disagree, one of them was miscopied, so look at the original page or a second record of the same event.
