aedituus
Aedituus is Latin for a sacristan, the man who kept a church and its contents; in ancient Rome it meant the keeper of a temple.
Aedituus first meant the keeper of a temple. In church Latin it names the sacristan, who looked after the church building and the things used in services.
Registers may also use the plural aeditui or a local word for the same post. If a sacristan stands as godparent or witness again and again, he was probably serving the church, not standing for his own kin.
As seen in a recordLatin baptism register, Tyrol, 1780s
Patrinus fuit Michael Hofer, aedituus hujus ecclesiae
