decessit

Decessit is Latin for he or she departed, a polite way of saying the person died.

Decessit is a past form of decedo, to depart or withdraw, which also means to die. The BYU glossary gives to depart, leave; to die.

It means the same as obiit. English deceased comes from the same verb. The date with decessit is the date of death, not of burial.
