Latin in records · card I

ibidem

Ibidem is Latin for "in the same place," used to avoid repeating a place already named; ibid. is its short form.

Ibidem tells you the place is the same as the one just mentioned. A register might give a birth in one village and then say baptizatus ibidem, baptized in the same place.

In footnotes and bibliographies ibid. means the same source as the previous note. Make sure you know what it refers back to before copying a place or source.
