judex
Judex, also spelled iudex, is Latin for a judge; judicis means of the judge.
Judex means judge, and also one who decides or arbitrates, or a juror. The spelling with j and the spelling with i are the same word.
Note the place that follows: judex loci or judex pagi means judge of the place or of the village, and court records from there may name him again.
