maritus
Maritus is Latin for husband, a married man; in a burial entry for a woman, mariti tells you whose wife she was.
Maritus means husband or married man. Registers more often name the wife as uxor of her husband, but maritus appears when the husband is described from the wife's side, as in a woman's burial entry.
The plural mariti is used in phrases such as mariti fuerunt, they were married. Do not confuse maritus with matrimonium, which is the marriage itself.
