matrina

Matrina is Latin for "godmother," the female sponsor named at a baptism.

Matrina means godmother and usually follows the godfather (patrinus) in the sponsor line of a baptism entry.

Godmothers were often the child's grandmother, aunt or older sister, and a girl was frequently named after her godmother. If the godmother's name matches the baby's, look for her in the family.
