patrinus
Patrinus is Latin for "godfather," the male sponsor named at a baptism; the female sponsor is the matrina.
Patrinus means godfather. Baptism entries usually end with the names of the sponsors, introduced by patrinus or patrini (plural).
Sponsors were very often relatives: grandparents, aunts, uncles or older siblings. Their names can link families together and help you place a child in the right household.
