meridies
Meridies is Latin for midday or noon, and also for the south; meridie means at noon.
Meridies means midday or noon. Because the sun stands in the south at noon, it also means south.
In time notes you see meridie (at noon), ante meridiem (before noon, A.M.) and post meridiem (after noon, P.M.). The English abbreviations come from these phrases.
