Latin in records · card M

mane

Mane is Latin for in the morning or early morning; in registers it gives the time of day of a birth, death or ceremony.

Mane is an adverb meaning in the morning, especially early morning. It often stands next to an hour: hora sexta mane, at six in the morning. The evening word is vesperi or vespere, and the night word noctu or nocte.

Do not confuse it with forms of maneo, a verb meaning to stay: mane is also its command form, stay. In a date line, though, it nearly always means morning.
