hodie

Hodie is Latin for "today," meaning the date on which the clerk wrote the entry.

Hodie means today. In a register it ties the event to the day of writing, as in hodie baptizatus est, was baptized today, so the date at the head of the entry is the event date.

When a child is natus heri (born yesterday) and baptized hodie, you can work out the birth date from the entry date.

As seen in a recordBaptism entry in a Latin register
Die 5 Maii: hodie baptizatus est Joannes, natus heri
