posthumus

Posthumus (classically postumus) is Latin for a child born after the father's death.

Posthumus describes a child born after the father died. In a baptism entry it tells you the father's death came within the months before the birth.

Search the burial register for the father in the year before the baptism. The child may also appear later in guardianship or probate records.
