sartor
Sartor is Latin for a tailor, a man who made and mended clothing; sartoris means of the tailor.
Sartor comes from a Latin verb for patching and mending, and by the time of parish registers it simply meant tailor.
Like other trade words it changes its ending with grammar, so a baptism entry may read sartoris after the father's name and a burial entry sartor. A man's trade can help you tell apart two men of the same name in one parish, so note it every time you see it.
