senex

Senex is Latin for an old man or an old person; the related comparative senior means older or the elder.

Senex means old man, and more generally an old person; as an adjective it means old or aged. Wiktionary notes that a senex was typically a man of 40 or more, older than a iuvenis.

The comparative is senior, older, and senes is the plural. In a burial entry senex describes the dead person as old; the age, if given, is more exact.
