Grantor
The grantor is the person who transfers land or property in a deed, by sale or gift; the receiver is the grantee.
In a deed the grantor gives up the land, whether by sale or gift. A married couple selling together both appear as grantors.
County deed indexes are usually split into a grantor index and a grantee index. Search both, because your ancestor may appear on either side of different transactions.
