kone
Kone means "wife" in Norwegian records; kona means "the wife", and the older, more formal word for a wife is hustru.
FamilySearch lists kone and hustru as words for wife, with kona for the wife and koner for wives. NAOB notes that kone once also meant a grown or older woman in general, so in an old text the word does not always prove a marriage.
In a household list or church book, though, kone or hans Kone, his wife, normally means the wife of the man named before her.
