A baker is a tradesperson who bakes breads and other products made of flour, and the place of work is a bakery. Baking is an ancient trade; Wikipedia credits ancient Rome with the first mass production of bread.
Older Scottish and northern English records may use baxter, an obsolete word for a baker that originally meant a woman who baked.
