Orchardist

An orchardist grew fruit or nut trees, such as apples, peaches or walnuts, in an orchard for sale.

Wiktionary gives orchardist as a synonym of orcharder, one who keeps an orchard. An orchard is a planting of fruit or nut trees kept for food production, mostly for commercial sale, and usually laid out in a regular grid.

The 1900 census instructions told enumerators to distinguish a farmer who ran a farm from a gardener, fruit grower, nurseryman, florist or vine grower, so an orchardist may also be entered as fruit grower.
