Nurseryman
A nurseryman raised and sold young trees, shrubs and plants in a nursery, for orchards, gardens and farms.
A nursery is a place where plants are propagated and grown to a size ready for planting. Nurserymen grew fruit trees for orchards, shade and timber trees, and garden plants, selling to farmers, gardeners and other nurseries.
The 1900 census instructions put the nurseryman with the gardener, florist and fruit grower, separate from the general farmer, and told enumerators not to confuse a nurseryman who ran the business with a nursery laborer who hired out to him.
