małżonkowie

Małżonkowie is Polish for "the married couple" or "spouses"; małżonków Kowalskich means "of the Kowalski couple."

Małżonkowie is the plural of małżonek, husband or spouse; the feminine małżonka means wife. Together the plural names a husband and wife as a pair. The genitive form małżonków, of the married couple, is common in baptism entries, where the child is described as the son or daughter of a couple named once with a shared surname.

In birth records you will also see z jego małżonki, from his wife, which introduces the mother. Do not read the surname form as a single person: the couple's surname is in the plural.
