lib.

Lib. is short for liber, Latin for book, and in a deed citation such as Lib. 12, fol. 40 it names the record book.

Lib. abbreviates liber, the Latin word for book. Some county recorders called their deed and mortgage books libers, so a citation reads Lib. 12, fol. 40 or Liber 12, page 40.

Write down both numbers. The liber and folio (or page) are what the courthouse or archive needs to find the original record.
