Pericarditis

Pericarditis is inflammation of the pericardium, the sac around the heart, which typically causes sudden, sharp chest pain.

Wiktionary defines pericarditis as inflammation of the pericardium, the membrane that surrounds the heart. The pain may spread to the shoulders, neck or back and eases when sitting up.

Pericarditis had its own code in the IPUMS scheme for the 1850 to 1880 mortality schedules, separate from endocarditis and myocarditis.
