1890 veterans schedule

The 1890 veterans schedule was a special census of Union Civil War veterans and their widows, giving unit, service dates and disabilities; much of it survives.

It lists each veteran, or the widow and her late husband, with rank, company, regiment or vessel, enlistment and discharge dates, length of service, post office and any disability. Census takers often added Confederates and veterans of other wars, though they were not meant to.

Surviving schedules cover Washington, DC, part of Kentucky and the states from Louisiana to Wyoming in alphabetical order, plus Navy vessels and yards; the other states are missing. On the 1890 population schedule itself, veterans were marked Sol (U.S.) or Sol (Conf.), and widows W. Sol.
