Italian words in old records · card F

febbraio

Febbraio is Italian for February; 19th-century records often spell it febbrajo, with j for i.

Febbraio is February, from Latin Februarius. Like gennajo, it often appears in older acts as febbrajo, because the letter j stood for i between vowels. The abbreviation is feb.

Do not confuse febbraio with febbre, fever, which may appear in a death act as a cause of death. In a date line after addì and a day number, febbraio is always the month: addì venti del mese di febbraio, on the twentieth of February.
