Italian words in old records · card F

figlio

Figlio is Italian for "son" and figlia for "daughter"; figlio di names the father, figli means children.

Figlio means son and figlia daughter; the plurals are figli, children or sons, and figlie, daughters. In acts a person is identified as figlio di or figlia di followed by the father and then the mother, as figlia di Nicola e di Teresa Ruggiero.

Because the mother is listed by her own surname, the line gives you her maiden name directly. If the father is marked fu, he was already dead. Figliastro means stepchild and figlioccio godchild, which are different relationships.
