nubile
Nubile is Italian for an unmarried woman; in a civil marriage act it marks a bride who had never married before.
Nubile describes a woman who has not married. It is the female counterpart of celibe, and comes from Latin nubilis, of an age to marry, from nubere, to take a husband. In records it is a civil status, not an age.
In a marriage act the bride is nubile or vedova, widow. Do not confuse it with English nubile, which has a different sense. Zitella, old maid or spinster, is an informal word for an older unmarried woman.
