frater
Frater is Latin for brother; it can also mean a brother in a religious order.
Frater means brother. In family entries it names a sibling, often as a witness or sponsor. In church use it can also be a member of a religious order, as in Frater Anselm.
When frater appears among witnesses with the same surname, it may connect two households that otherwise look unrelated.
