soror

Soror is Latin for sister; in church use it can also mean a nun.

Soror means sister. It appears when a sister stands as godmother or witness, or in burial entries naming the survivors. In church use it can also refer to a nun or member of a religious community.

A godmother recorded as soror patris (the father's sister) gives you an aunt's name, and often her married surname too.

As seen in a recordGodmother in a Latin baptism entry
matrina: Anna, soror matris
