inquilinus

Inquilinus is Latin for a lodger or sojourner, someone living in a house or place that is not his own.

Inquilinus describes a person living in a place not his own: a lodger or sojourner. Classical writers also used it as a scornful word for an outsider. The feminine is inquilina.

In a register it tells you the family did not own the house where they lived, so they may move between entries. Look for them in neighboring house numbers or villages.
