pagus
Pagus is Latin for a country district, and in medieval Latin for a village; pagi means of the village.
In classical Latin a pagus was a country district or region, the countryside, or the people living there. Medieval Latin used it for a village and also for a country or territory.
In a register, in pago with a place name says the family lived in that village. The ablative pago and genitive pagi are the forms you will usually see.
