pellio

Pellio is Latin for a furrier, a man who made and sold furs; pellionis means of the furrier.

Pellio comes from pellis, skin or hide, and Lewis and Short defines it as a furrier. Roman authors such as Plautus already used it.

Do not confuse it with pellis, the hide itself. The genitive pellionis appears when the father's trade follows his name in a baptism entry, and other records in the local language will give the same trade.
