primogenitus

Primogenitus is Latin for firstborn, the first child born to a couple; primogenita is used for a firstborn daughter.

Primogenitus means firstborn. It is a later Latin word, built from primus (first) and genitus (born).

When a record calls someone primogenitus, use it as a check on your list of the couple's children: if you have an older child of the same two parents, one of the records is wrong or belongs to a different family. A child from an earlier marriage does not count.
